Where in the World is Cheryl? Discovering Hotels with Tradition and Luxury in Lisbon
Nestled right along the Atlantic coast, Lisbon has a distinct ambiance that blends old world charm with modern energy. From historic tram rides through cobblestoned streets to sunset views over the Tagus River, it’s clear why Lisbon and the surrounding area is an ideal incentive travel destination – not to mention its well-deserved reputation for affordability.
Cheryl Hammerschlag, our Director of Sourcing and Business Development, with 25 years of global travel experience, was determined to scope out the hidden gems and roads less traveled to provide our client with an experience beyond the traditional, ensuring they would have a truly one-of-a-kind program. She recently visited the city to check out the hotels that could offer a genuinely aspirational experience, within the budget, and overflowing with Portuguese ambiance and culture. She searched for a property new to our client - someplace local but with world-class service – and here’s what she discovered!
The search for the perfect hotel

Olissippo Lapa Palace
Located in the historic diplomatic quarter in the heart of Lisbon, the Olissippo Lapa Palace was originally constructed in the 19th century as a private residence. It has since been converted into a five-star hotel and is a member of the ‘Leading Hotels of the World’. Each of the 95 guest rooms are individually decorated, featuring luxurious Portuguese fabrics and furnishings. A particularly distinctive feature of Lapa Palace is that it showcases varied art and decor style with design styles ranging from colonial to neoclassical. The hotel also consists of two distinct wings, the historic Palace wing and the lush Garden wing, each with a different look and feel. Set amid subtropical garden grounds on the bank of the Tagus River, Lapa Palace is much more than just a place to stay; it’s a destination all on its own.

⭐ SELECTED
Tivoli Kopke Porto Gaia
Cheryl also visited the exclusive Tivoli Kopke Porto Gaia, ultimately selected for the program.
Built on top of Kopke Wine House, this one-of-a-kind hotel combines old world class and distinction with modern luxury. Tivoli Kopke Porto Gaia was the result of a partnership between Tivoli Hotels & Resorts, a world-renowned Portuguese luxury hotel brand, and Kopke, the oldest port wine house in the world founded in 1638. The hotel features 150 rooms and suites, the 1638 Restaurant & Wine Bar, and Boa Vista Terrace by Nacho Manzano, a renowned three Michelin-starred Executive Chef. In the end, our client chose Tivoli Kopke Porto Gaia for its captivating blend of distinct historic charm and world class luxury. It stands as a true celebration of the region’s rich winemaking heritage, transforming centuries-old, restored wine cellars and warehouses into a truly novel and luxurious stay for guests.
