Destination Debrief: Hidden Gems & Iconic Escapes

Jennifer Mazza, Vice President, Travel Operations, has visited destinations around the world, but a handful continue to stand out for their ability to deliver exceptional experiences for discerning travelers. From secluded executive retreats to iconic incentive destinations, these properties combine unforgettable settings, outstanding service, and experiences that leave a lasting impression.

Susan Adams: Jennifer, you've experienced some remarkable destinations over the years. Are there a few that consistently rise to the top of your list?

Jennifer Mazza: Absolutely. What's interesting is that they're not all the same type of destination. Some are perfect for C-suite meetings and executive retreats, while others are ideal for incentive programs. What they all have in common is exceptional service, incredible surroundings, and the ability to make guests feel like they've discovered something truly special.

Susan Adams: Let's start with executive meetings. Where would you send a leadership team looking for a high-touch experience?

Jennifer Mazza: Two properties come immediately to mind: Montage Palmetto Bluff in South Carolina and Cliff House Maine in Cape Neddick, just outside Ogunquit.

Both are stunning in completely different ways. Palmetto Bluff captures the beauty of the Lowcountry with its moss-draped oaks, waterways, and relaxed sophistication. Cliff House delivers that classic New England charm with dramatic ocean views that feel straight out of a Norman Rockwell painting. What makes both properties special is their ability to provide privacy while still delivering five-star service. They're the kinds of places seasoned executives love discovering and almost hesitate to recommend because they'd like to keep them a secret.

Susan Adams: What makes those properties particularly well-suited for executive groups?

Jennifer Mazza: Privacy and personalization. Executive teams often want to step away from traditional business destinations and have meaningful conversations without distractions. Both properties offer beautiful settings, exceptional culinary experiences, and a sense of exclusivity that encourages connection and strategic thinking.

Susan Adams: What about incentive travel? Which destinations have made the biggest impression on you?

Jennifer Mazza: It's hard to beat Monte Carlo. Whether it's the Hotel Hermitage Monte-Carlo or the Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo, you're talking about one of the most iconic destinations in the world. There's a reason people associate it with the lifestyles of the rich and famous. The scenery is stunning, the atmosphere feels glamorous, and the destination is surprisingly accessible from Nice. For incentive winners, it delivers that unmistakable "I've made it" feeling.

Susan Adams: You also mentioned Switzerland as a favorite.

Jennifer Mazza: Yes, Fairmont Le Montreux Palace in Montreux, Switzerland is truly exceptional. Switzerland may be my favorite country I've ever visited. The hotel sits directly on the shores of Lake Geneva while also being right in the heart of Montreux. Everything is walkable, from restaurants to shopping, and the surrounding scenery is breathtaking. Between the lake, the mountains, and the charming town atmosphere, it feels almost unreal. The destination offers incredible excursions and easy access from Geneva, making it both beautiful and practical for incentive groups.

Susan Adams: One more destination made your list: Cabo.

Jennifer Mazza: Cabo continues to be one of my favorite incentive destinations. While I personally didn't make it to Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal  for a recent site visit due to a flight cancellation, my colleagues have both raved about the property. In fact, Cheryl Hammerschlag described it as the best hotel experience she's ever had – and that’s saying something since she has been all over the world at luxury properties!  Beyond the resort itself, Cabo offers so much versatility. It's upscale, clean, feels very safe, and has some of the most diverse activity options available for incentive travel. Whether participants want adventure, wellness, culinary experiences, golf, or relaxation, Cabo delivers.

Susan Adams: If there's a common thread connecting all of these destinations, what is it?

Jennifer Mazza: They all feel special. Whether it's the privacy of Palmetto Bluff, the coastal charm of Maine, the glamour of Monte Carlo, the beauty of Switzerland, or the energy of Cabo, these destinations create experiences that people remember. That's ultimately what great meetings and incentive programs are all about.

Let's talk about your next meeting or incentive program and how we can help you create experiences that inspire, reward, and leave a lasting impression.
